In 2003, NORM began the development of Simstore®, our software for conducting virtual shopper research. We identified an increasing need for understanding shopper dynamics at the point of purchase in the FMCG industry.

Traditional research methods often focus on capturing conscious attitudes and stated behaviour. However, most decisions are made emotionally – not rationally. That is why NORM prefers to focus on measuring behaviour and changes to that behaviour at point of sale.

NORM hosted an event in Stockholm on Tuesday 7/10 at Urban Deli, an all-in-one sociable bar, diner, food hall and organic grocery store, about the impact of shopping missions on store design. Our key note speaker from New York was global retail expert Andres Nicholls, who presented a fascinating case study covering shopper insights, segmentation, positioning and design. Andres showed that effective in-store solutions should be based on shopping missions. He believes it’s all about why people shop, not who is doing the shopping.
